A Brand-New You

We’re all familiar with the term branding. It’s what makes Southwest the “fun” airline, Coca-cola the “all-American” soda, and Apple the “hip” computer. Brands are the personality given to a product – and they are what sells it.

standoutThe job search is a sales pitch – and you are the product. In the difficult job market we are currently facing, personal branding has become essential. You must create a brand for yourself. Take some lessons from famous corporate brands and begin the process.

Start by honestly examining your strengths and weaknesses. What makes you unique? Then take a look at how you have been representing your brand. Are you conveying your brand when interviewing? Next, be sure you are using all available outlets. Are you utlizing social media to portray a consistent image of yourself (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)?
